Welcome to 2023. It has been an absolute pleasure to start the new year with all our new students and families at Point Cook Senior Secondary College and I also welcome back all those students and families that were with us in 2022. It’s been a great start to the year.
Back to school is an exciting time for students and families. It can be a big step – particularly for those starting moving to a senior secondary school.

Help with school costs
Please contact the college if you are having difficulty with school costs. Programs like Affordable School Uniforms and the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund can help with the cost of school uniforms and other essential school items as well as school activities for eligible students.

Health and wellbeing
I encourage parents and carers to read the department’s mental and wellbeing health toolkit, which offers guidance to help support your child’s mental health and wellbeing at home, and advice on working with your school and seeking help if you have concerns.

I look forward to meeting many of you over the next twelve months.
In 2023 we will continue to focus on student learning, with an increased focus on numeracy, and a focus on student wellbeing. We have committed to supporting both those students who need scaffolding and those who have thrived to continue to extend their learning. In regards to wellbeing we will effectively mobilise available resources to support student’s wellbeing and mental health, especially the most vulnerable.
The school has invested in some additional outside areas to support the happy, active and healthy kids’ initiative. Among other projects, this includes a new shade cloth area outside the Trade Training Centre to ensure sun-smart protection as well as offering additional outside seating areas for outside learning as well as rest areas at recess/lunch. We have also built a Sensory Garden area for students to enjoy as a passive area for contemplation. Our VM cohort in 2021 - 2022 have also planned and implemented significant changes to our school grounds. Most notably, the Birds Nest Garden and the installation of bird and possum nesting boxes around the school. These projects recognise and pay respects to the Indigenous heritage of our lands as well as promote collaboration and teamwork from our VM students.
To finish, I would like to congratulate our class of 2022 whole heartedly for their outstanding results. Our Median Study Score of 27 is an indication of the resilience shown by our young adults despite the significant challenges that Covid19 had on our students from 2020 – 2022, 97%+ of those that applied through VTAC have received tertiary offers, with our highest ATAR result being 95.5, an outstanding result. We look forward to hearing of their achievements in the years to come and I encourage them to stay connected to the college through the Alumni Association.
